Feasibility Study and Cost-Benefit Analysis (CBA)

The goal of the training is to help participants prepare the most important document required for applying for infrastructure and other larger projects - the feasibility study and cost-benefit analysis (CBA).

Predavač: Ariana Vela, MBA, IPMA/A

Description

The Feasibility Study and Cost-Benefit Analysis (CBA) programme is a practical training course designed for anyone who wants to learn how to prepare key project documentation for infrastructure and other higher-value projects financed through EU funds and other sources. The programme enables participants to understand the purpose, structure, and content of a feasibility study and cost-benefit analysis, with particular emphasis on the practical preparation of these documents through examples and group exercises. The training is focused on developing concrete knowledge needed to assess the justification of investments and prepare high-quality project proposals. The value of the programme lies in its strong practical applicability for the public, private, and development sectors, especially in the preparation of investment projects.

What you will learn

  • Understand the role of a feasibility study and cost-benefit analysis in the preparation of infrastructure and other larger-scale projects.
  • Prepare the basic parts of a feasibility study and structure the data required for project analysis.
  • Apply the basic logic of cost-benefit analysis in assessing the justification of investments and project decisions.
  • Solve concrete tasks through practical examples and group exercises focused on preparing project documentation.

Learning outcomes

Upon completion of the programme, participants will be able to:

  • explain the purpose and role of a feasibility study and cost-benefit analysis in project preparation
  • distinguish the key elements and content of a feasibility study from other project documents
  • collect and structure the basic data required for preparing a feasibility study and CBA
  • analyse the basic costs and benefits of a project for the purpose of assessing its justification
  • participate in the preparation of a feasibility study and cost-benefit analysis for higher-value projects
  • assess the importance of high-quality project documentation for submitting projects to EU funds and other funding sources
  • apply the knowledge acquired to concrete examples of investment and development projects

Who the programme if for

The programme is intended for anyone who wants to understand and practically use feasibility studies and cost-benefit analysis in project preparation. It is particularly useful for individuals and organisations involved in the planning, application, and appraisal of investment projects.

  • small and medium-sized enterprises planning to prepare projects
  • support organisations, including business support centres and development agencies
  • chambers, associations, and other umbrella organisations

Programme

  1. The Role of the Feasibility Study and CBA in Project Preparation
Participants are introduced to the purpose and importance of the feasibility study and cost-benefit analysis as key documents in the preparation of infrastructure and other larger-scale projects. The emphasis is on understanding when these documents are required and how they affect the quality of the project proposal.
  2. Structure and Content of the Feasibility Study
This unit covers the basic elements of a feasibility study, including the logic of project analysis, the presentation of the investment, objectives, needs, and possible solutions. Participants learn how to structure the content and prepare a document that meets project application requirements.
  3. Cost-Benefit Analysis, CBA
This unit focuses on understanding the basic methodology of cost-benefit analysis and its role in assessing the justification of an investment. Participants learn to distinguish between the financial and socio-economic effects of a project and to understand the basic logic of assessing costs and benefits.
  4. Data Collection and Preparation of Documentation
Participants learn which data needs to be collected for the preparation of a feasibility study and CBA, and how to organise that data into functional project documentation. The focus is on relevance, accuracy, and alignment of the data with project objectives.
  5. Practical Work on Examples and Group Exercises
The programme includes practical examples and group work so that participants can immediately apply the knowledge acquired to concrete project situations. The emphasis is on understanding the methodology through practical work and the analysis of real cases.
