The aim of the program is to provide an overview of current techniques for managing project risks in a volatile and dynamic (VUCA) business environment.
By timely identifying risks, we proactively enhance project performance through the project management process. Risk management is often neglected but can be crucial for project outcomes.

Project Risk Management

The educational program consists of 16 academic hours, with the following topics covered in the curriculum:

  • Basic principles of project risk management, the connection between strategy and risk management, project risk management participants, the purpose and cost of risk management, differences compared to opportunities;
  • Process of identifying and assessing project risks (methods for identifying risks and methods for assessing their probability, severity, and danger, the threat of project risks through FMEA);
  • Qualitative analysis of risks in project tasks (the process of managing project risks, types of risks);
  • Sources of project risks (internal and external; human sources, poor planning; technical and technological risks; credit or financial risks; marketing risks; product quality risks; external sources of risks; fiscal sources of risks; political sources of risks; labor market risks; legal sources of risks; supplier risks);
  • Project risk management strategies;
  • Determining time reserves (estimating real and expected project duration, probability of project completion within the planned time, Monte Carlo simulation, scope creep);
  • Determining the financial project reserve budget (method of calculating project reserves, normal and expected budget, monitoring project reserves).

The training will be conducted ONLINE via the ZOOM platform!

Marko Šimac

M.Sc. in Civil Engineering

About the lecturer

Marko Šimac graduated from the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the University of Zagreb. He is employed at Croatian Roads where he is the Head of the Road Infrastructure Management Department in the Development and IT Support Sector.
Throughout his career as a consultant, he gained experience working on some of the most significant projects across various industries such as construction, energy, transport infrastructure, etc. His particular area of interest is the digital transformation of construction. He is a certified project manager according to IPMA standards and PMP according to PMI standards. He is a certified PM2 Alliance trainer. He is the Vice President of the Croatian branch of the Project Management Institute. He holds the position of senior lecturer and is the course leader in project management at several higher education institutions. He successfully prepares candidates for certification according to PMI and IPMA standards.
He has participated in many domestic and international conferences and is the author or co-author of numerous professional and scientific papers in the field of project management and a member of many professional associations in which he actively participates. He continued his education with an "MBA in Construction" at the University of Zagreb.
